Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the group access places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Planners parties.
Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
