Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

He saved 4 early opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
